Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who leads one of the most stable governments in Europe, has a unique opportunity to act as a bridge between the USA and Europe following Donald Trump's return to the White House.
According to CNN, she will need to bridge the gap between European allies and Trump, who just a few years ago labeled Europe as an "enemy."
A crucial factor in this scenario is Meloni's close friendship with American billionaire Elon Musk, who recently dined with Meloni and Trump in Paris. Analysts suggest that Musk could become a significant ally for both Meloni and Trump, providing the Italian Prime Minister with the opportunity to establish dialogue with the new U.S. president. In 2023, Musk and Meloni not only became political allies but also publicly showcased the closeness of their relationship. This allows Meloni to temporarily view herself as an important figure capable of mediating in intercontinental negotiations.
Despite sharing similar political views with Trump, particularly regarding support for Ukraine, Meloni does not fully endorse Trump's stance towards Europe. She has remained one of the strongest supporters of Kyiv since the Russian invasion. For Meloni, this could pose a challenge, as while she has the opportunity to become the main point of contact for the United States, her position on Ukraine is likely to face pressure from right-wing politicians like Trump and his allies, who advocate for reducing American aid to Ukraine.
