Russia may lose control over its strategic bases in Syria, particularly the naval base in Tartus and the airbase in Khmeimim.
Naval expert Vladimir Zablotsky suggested during an appearance on Radio NV that despite Russia's efforts to maintain these facilities, Erdogan will actively obstruct the Kremlin. According to the expert, Russian authorities might attempt to use financial tools to bribe regional leaders, specifically the Alawites, to negotiate agreements and maintain control over crucial territories.
"But I believe that the Turkish interest of Sultan Erdogan... will not allow them to do this, and he will do everything to ensure that Putin gets out of the Middle East," Zablotsky noted.
He also added that the bases in Tartus and Khmeimim no longer hold significant value. Russian troops have accumulated considerable supplies there over the years, which now require substantial effort to either transport or destroy. The expert emphasized that the Kremlin is currently contemplating its next steps, taking the situation into account.
