The sitting president Maia Sandu, a representative of the pro-European party, received 41.84% of the votes, but this was not enough for a victory in the first round.

This is evidenced by the data from the Central Electoral Commission, which has processed 97.88% of the votes.

In second place was Sandu's opponent, Alexander Stoianoglo from the pro-Russian Party of Socialists, with 26.35%. The third position was taken by Renato Usatyi, the former mayor of Bălți, with 13.77%.

During her speech at headquarters, Maia Sandu accused her opponents of "unprecedented falsifications." According to her, "criminal groups" are attempting to buy 300,000 votes. Sandu stated that she possesses concrete evidence of this "fraud."

She also emphasized that the "unprecedented attack on freedom and democracy" has lasted for several months and was organized by criminal groups and foreign forces that "attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies, and propaganda."

According to preliminary data, in the second round, which is likely to take place on November 3, 2024, two candidates will compete.

Additionally, on October 20, a referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union was held concurrently. According to the CEC, the results indicate an almost equal distribution of votes: for 50.46% (750352), against 49.54% (736567).
