Rubio noted that the war will not come to an end unless one of the countries is willing to change its maximalist demands.
He shared this in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly. According to Rubio, Ukraine and Russia will not achieve their full objectives, as both sides have already paid a high price for the conflict.
"If you imagine being Ukrainian, and the Russians have caused you so much suffering, will you now allow them to leave the land (under Russian control – ed.)? I mean, people in Ukraine would be upset about this, and that's understandable," the U.S. Secretary of State explained.
However, Rubio emphasized that over time, as with any war, more mature approaches to reality will emerge. Both countries want to end the war, as they are paying a significant price for its prolongation.
"This (the war in Ukraine, – ed.) will not end with one side's maximalist goals, and a lot of hard work will have to be done. And I believe that only the United States under President Trump’s leadership can make this possible. It won't be easy, and it will take some time. But I know that he (Trump, – ed.) is determined to achieve this," the U.S. Secretary of State concluded.
