According to him, the ceasefire could be achieved within three to six months, marking the first step toward peace negotiations.
As reported by Yle, Stubb noted that during a recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he felt a sense of optimism regarding the situation and emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine so it can adopt a strong position in the upcoming negotiations.
"Initially, there will be a push for a ceasefire, which will take about 3 to 6 months, followed by peace negotiations," the President of Finland stated.
Stubb declared that Finland's policy is to support Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, highlighting the significance of international support for the country. He believes that Ukraine should receive maximum assistance to be prepared for a ceasefire and the forthcoming peace talks.
Stubb also expressed his views on the approach used by U.S. President Donald Trump in his peace efforts. He remarked that Trump employs a tough rhetoric in an attempt to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table.
"Personally, I think that Putin only understands tough rhetoric. And that is the language Donald Trump is using to address him right now," he added.
The President of Finland also emphasized that there are no risks of discussions about peace occurring without Ukraine's involvement. He believes that Europe must actively participate in the negotiations, as the future of European security directly depends on the outcomes of the peace process.
