Did a solar flare miss its target? Will Earth experience magnetic storms anytime soon?

A magnetic storm may soon begin to brew on Earth.
Солнечный выброс не достиг Земли? Ожидаются ли магнитные бури в ближайшем будущем?

At the beginning of the week, a spot flared up on the Sun, resulting in a coronal mass ejection (CME) being released into space. It was expected to trigger a magnetic storm on December 25, but the forecast did not materialize, and scientists are now anticipating the storm on December 26.

The CME that was supposed to strike Earth on December 25 did not arrive. Either it missed its target or is moving slower than expected, explain scientists from the space weather research site Spaceweather.

"The delayed arrival on December 26 could still cause a minor G1-class geomagnetic storm." the report states.

It is important to note that G1-class magnetic storms are considered minor.

Meanwhile, astrophysicists report that the Sun is crackling with flares caused by sunspots 3933, 3936, and 3938. These spots are producing eruptions one after another rather than simultaneously. Scientists attribute this to the fact that the spots are located at a considerable distance from each other and are connected by invisible magnetic loops that permeate the Sun's upper atmosphere.

If they remain active, then "a powerful X-flare could be just a matter of time." Such an eruption could lead to a geomagnetic storm on our planet.

As a reminder, "Telegraph" previously reported that significant frosts would invade certain areas of Ukraine, with temperatures expected to drop to -9 degrees in some places.
