In Russia, there's a frenzy: 11 Russian developers were removed from Linux, and Torvalds made a sarcastic remark about it.

A new wave of hysteria has erupted in Russia following the expulsion of 11 Russian developers from the Linux operating system core development team. All of them were employed by Russian companies, some of which are under sanctions.

This information has been reported by numerous Russian media outlets and social media users involved in the IT sector. It is noted that the reason for their removal was stated as "various compliance requirements." To be reinstated on the developer list, the Russian programmers must provide the project leaders with "certain documents."

According to open sources, at least one of the expelled Russian programmers was involved in the development and production of Russian "Baikal" processors. In response to the outrage from users in Russia, Linux founder Linus Torvalds sent a rather scathing and sarcastic reply.

"Well, many Russian trolls have become active. It's completely clear why this change was made; no one intends to reverse it, and using a large number of random anonymous accounts to try to create 'popular support' through Russian troll farms will not change anything. And for the information of innocent observers who are not troll farm accounts – 'various compliance requirements' apply not only to the USA. If you haven't heard about the sanctions against Russia, you should somehow catch up on the news. And by 'news,' I do not mean state-sponsored spam. As for sending me a patch to revert the changes – please use what you call a brain. I'm Finnish. Did you think I would support Russian aggression? It seems the issue is not only a lack of real news but also a lack of knowledge of history," – he wrote.

It should be noted that after the extensive sanctions imposed against Russia, Russians have repeatedly discussed the possibility of developing new Russian software based on Linux. The Linux operating system is built on open-source code, making it available for use and application development by any developers, unlike Microsoft.

Recall that Google no longer allows new accounts to be created using Russian phone numbers. The company has not officially announced any changes; however, this could be due to new US sanctions limiting the provision of IT services to Russia.

On October 23, the well-known American graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA prohibited users from Russia and Belarus from updating drivers for graphics cards from the official website. Now, the only option left for Russians is to do so from third-party websites.
