If the US and Europe abandon Ukraine, it will serve as an invitation for Russia to attack one of the NATO countries.
As noted by The Telegraph, in his campaign speeches, Donald Trump has repeatedly promised to end the war between Russia and Ukraine within a day by meeting with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. However, experts doubt the likelihood of such a swift resolution, pointing out that Trump would face significant political risks, particularly for NATO.
"Russians and Ukrainians are dying. I want to stop this bloodshed. And I will do it within 24 hours," Trump stated.
The newly elected US president also mentioned that had he been in Joe Biden's position, Putin would not have dared to invade Ukraine in February 2022. However, following his victory in the presidential elections in November, the specifics of his peace initiative remain unknown. As The Telegraph highlights, while Trump expresses a willingness to end the war, any concessions to Putin could have devastating consequences for NATO's stability and global security.
Russia has repeatedly expressed its readiness for negotiations, but only on its terms. Putin wanted the talks to be held in Slovakia, a country that relies on Russian gas and often shows allegiance to Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukraine, under Zelensky's leadership, insists on the return of occupied territories exclusively through a diplomatic process, which requires time and considerable effort.
