If Trump becomes president, support for Ukraine may decrease or even cease entirely.
According to Bloomberg, Trump is likely to urge Kyiv to make "painful compromises." Western politicians emphasize that support for Ukraine is crucial, as the Ukrainian army is already worn down by prolonged combat and relies on American ammunition and funding.
Trump has repeatedly stated that he is prepared to "resolve" the conflict by the time of his inauguration. Amid such statements, Ukraine fears finding itself in a situation where Western support diminishes.
On the other hand, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris holds a more stable position regarding Ukraine. However, Ukraine may still lose some funding and resources due to political disputes in Congress, even if Harris becomes the President of the United States.
Nikolai Beleskov, a researcher at the National Institute for Security Problems, highlights the importance of support from Western allies and warns that the balance on the battlefield could shift in favor of Russia if American support decreases. He notes that the U.S. has consistently assured that there are no plans to send troops to Ukraine, but under conditions of reduced resources, it may be necessary to seek support from partners in a new format.
