The unfavorable rating of the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz raises doubts about the chances of the Social Democratic Party of Germany succeeding in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for February 23, 2025.
As analysts from Spiegel point out, Scholz, who has led the party for three years, is increasingly facing criticism from both voters and party members. Among the discontented are representatives from the conservative wing known as the Seeheimer Kreis.
"A replacement for Pistorius must happen, otherwise the federal elections in February will be a disaster," emphasize the social democrats.
Two deputies from Hamburg have also openly called for a change in leadership to a more popular politician.
"In the past three years, Scholz has implemented good policies. However, he has failed to win the people's favor and demonstrate leadership," stated Tim Stoberok and Markus Schreiber.
Incidentally, the collapse of the three-party coalition led by Scholz last week has only exacerbated the crisis. The Christian Democratic Union, leading in polls with 32% support, is preparing to head the next government. Meanwhile, the SPD's rating has fallen to 16%, trailing even the far-right "Alternative for Germany." Given the situation, Germany faces numerous internal and external challenges.
