Attempts by Western and global leaders to initiate peace negotiations with Russia without consulting Ukraine risk undermining the unity of the international coalition and exacerbating geopolitical disagreements.

Bloomberg columnist Mark Champion analyzes the actions of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which, according to the expert, are more focused on their own interests than on a long-term resolution of the conflict.

The expert suggests that Scholz's call is a move aimed at strengthening the Chancellor's position ahead of early elections, but it has not yielded any real results for conflict resolution. Ukrainian President Zelensky reacted sharply to the call, describing it as the opening of a "Pandora's box."

Meanwhile, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, known as a mediator between Russia and the West, has also proposed his peace plan. Although his efforts led to a grain agreement, achieving a more significant diplomatic breakthrough remains elusive. According to Champion, Erdoğan is keen to maintain his role as a key mediator, fearing that other politicians, such as Scholz or even Donald Trump, might try to claim his initiatives.

The columnist states that such "individual actions" could divide Ukraine's allies, which would only strengthen Russia's position.
