Political leaders in Western countries, in their efforts to support Ukraine, risk bringing the world closer to a global catastrophe.
This opinion was expressed by Simon Jenkins, a columnist for The Guardian. He added that UK Defense Minister John Healey does not hide the fact that his country aims to "double" its support for Ukraine.
The Kremlin, for its part, stated that such a development signifies escalation, which could lead to nuclear war. According to the new Russian nuclear doctrine, an attack on Russia by a state supported by a nuclear power may be viewed as a threat to its sovereignty.
Amid this escalation, attacks on Russian territory have triggered a new wave of military aggression from the Kremlin, including missile strikes on Ukrainian energy and utility facilities. Russia is likely to take further retaliatory measures, including intensified cyberattacks on Western infrastructure. The expert notes that the West may thus lose control over the situation.
