A powerful magnetic storm is expected to conclude 2024, according to forecasts from astro-meteorologists.

A strong geomagnetic storm is anticipated on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a magnitude of 5 to 7.
Астросиноптики предсказывают мощную магнитную бурю в конце 2024 года.

Low solar activity was short-lived, and in the coming days, December 31 and January 1, a strong magnetic storm of 5-7 levels is expected. This will be a result of a coronal mass ejection (CME).

According to data from the space weather research site Spaceweather, geomagnetic storms ranging from moderate (G2) to strong (G3) may occur on December 31 when the CME is anticipated to hit the Earth's magnetic field. If a severe storm occurs, the northern lights could descend to mid-latitudes in the USA and Europe.

Scientists explain that the CME was ejected into space due to the eruption of a magnetic filament associated with sunspot 3939.

At the same time, they emphasize that over the past 24 hours, sunspot 3936 has caused two powerful solar flares of class X (X1.1 and X1.5) and several smaller M-class explosions.

"This is actually a double X-flare. Both explosions shown above exceeded the X1 threshold (Editor’s note: class X1). The extreme ultraviolet radiation from the flares ionized the upper layers of Earth's atmosphere, causing a shortwave radio blackout approximately in the center of Australia," they explained.

However, astrophysicists are unsure whether these explosions have entered space and are awaiting updates from the SOHO coronagraph.

Magnetic Storms on Earth from December 27-29

According to data from the Meteoagent website, which compiles its forecast based on satellite systems from NOAA, TESIS, and international meteorological research laboratories worldwide, as of December 30, geomagnetic silence prevails on Earth.

Already on December 31, solar activity will rise to a severe magnetic storm of 7 levels. This will continue into January 1, but the storm's intensity will decrease to 5 levels.

Then, from January 2 to January 5, no geomagnetic fluctuations above 4 levels are expected.
