The Sun continues to present Earth with geomagnetic "gifts" in the form of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). These events trigger magnetic storms on our planet. One of these storms has been ongoing for 14 days and shows no signs of ending in the coming days.
Currently, there are three large sunspots on the solar surface, one of which is newly appeared — AR3889. They pose a threat for X-class solar flares, which are the most powerful, as reported by astrophysicists from Spaceweather.
"AR3889 joins AR3883 and AR3886, all of which have mixed polarity magnetic fields (delta-class), sensitive to explosive magnetic reconnection," scientists add.
At the same time, meteorologists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) assess the probability of X-flares on November 8 at 35%.
As stated by the Meteoagent resource, currently, on November 8, a level 5 magnetic storm is persisting on Earth. By November 9, its intensity will decrease to level 4. An average geomagnetic storm is also forecasted for November 10.
