Act swiftly—here's how to rescue your phone after it falls into the snow.

The most important thing is not to try to turn on your phone right away.
Действуйте быстро: как восстановить телефон после падения в снег.

In winter, phones and other gadgets face numerous dangers. They can be damaged by frost, or you might drop your phone in the snow.

"Telegraf" explains what to do if your phone falls, as it's crucial to act quickly to minimize potential damage. The primary task is to retrieve the phone as soon as possible. The longer the phone remains in the snow, the more moisture can seep inside.

What to do first:

  • Do not attempt to use it immediately after the fall. Turning it off will help prevent a short circuit if water has entered.
  • If possible, remove the SIM card and battery.
  • Take off the case. This will allow the phone to dry more quickly.

How to save your phone after falling into snow or a puddle

  • Wipe it dry. Use a soft cloth or tissue to remove moisture from all visible surfaces, especially around the charging port, headphone jack, and speakers.
  • Gently blow air or carefully use a cotton swab to clean the ports. Do not insert the charging cable or other accessories until everything is dry.
  • Dry it in an upright position, with the openings facing down, so that all moisture can escape.
  • Do not use a hairdryer or apply heat to the phone. You can place it in a container with silica gel, which effectively absorbs moisture.

Allow the phone to dry for at least 48-72 hours before attempting to turn it back on. After drying, check for signs of damage, such as malfunctioning speakers or charging issues. Overheating or rapid battery drain may indicate internal problems with the smartphone and the need for professional repair.
