Recently, 157 false killer whales washed up on the shores of Tasmania. These marine mammals belong to the dolphin family and are not killer whales; they are the only species in the genus Pseudorca. Some of them died immediately.

Australian ecologists attempted to rescue a portion of them. However, due to the turbulent ocean, the false killer whales lost their orientation and stranded again. It was decided to euthanize 90 animals, as rescue was impossible due to the challenging conditions.

The shore is located in a difficult access area, making it impossible to transport the false killer whales to another location. The euthanasia procedure began on Wednesday and will last several days. It is worth noting that cetaceans start to experience irreversible effects just six hours after being beached.

False killer whales are among the largest species of dolphins, reaching lengths of up to 6 meters and weighing as much as 2 tons. This is the first instance of mass stranding of false killer whales in Tasmania in over 50 years. The reason why whales, false killer whales, and other marine mammals wash ashore remains unknown.

Earlier, "Telegraph" reported that an astonishing deep-sea fish was wash up on the shores in the USA. Its appearance, according to some beliefs, is seen as a harbinger of disaster.
